Judith S.H. Atherton

Judith S.H. Atherton was a district court judge for the Third Judicial District. It serves Salt Lake County in Utah.[1] She was appointed to the court by former Governor Michael O. Leavitt in August 1995.[2] In May 2013, Atherton announced she will retire from the court, effective August 1, 2013.[3] From 2004 until her retirement, Atherton also served as a judge on the Mental Health Court.[4]

Education

Atherton received her undergraduate degree from Wellesley College and her J.D. from the University of Utah College of Law in 1983.[2][5]

Career

Before her appointment to the court, Artherton worked as staff counsel for the Legal Aid Society of Salt Lake and also as an assistant attorney general for the Criminal Appeals Division.[2]

Atherton was successfully retained to the Salt Lake City District Court in 2010.[6]
