December 18, 2025: Twenty-three states have Republican trifectas, meaning the same party controls the governorship and both houses of the state legislature, heading into 2026. Sixteen states have Democratic trifectas, and 11 have divided governments. Forty-one point five percent (41.5%) of the population in America lives under a Republican trifecta, 36.5% live under a Democratic trifecta, and 22% live in a divided government.
