Michele Mandia is an at-large member of the Utica City Board of Education in New York. She ran unopposed and won re-election in a general election on May 20, 2014. She was first elected to the board on May 15, 2012, to complete the unexpired two-year term vacated by Anthony Brindisi after he was elected to serve as the District 119 representative in the New York State Assembly.[1]

Utica City School District is located in Oneida County, New York. The county seat of Oneida County is Utica. Oneida County is home to 233,585 residents, according to the United States Census Bureau.[4] Utica City was the 18th-largest school district in New York, serving 9,619 students during the 2011-2012 school year.[5]
Demographics
Oneida County underperformed in comparison to the rest of New York in terms of higher education achievement in 2012. The United States Census Bureau found that 22.4 percent of Oneida County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 32.8 percent for New York as a whole. The median household income in Oneida County was $49,148 compared to $57,683 for the state of New York. The poverty rate in Oneida County was 15.6 percent compared to 14.9 percent for the entire state.[4]
