David DeWeese
David DeWeese was a 2011 Republican candidate for District 1 of the New Jersey State Senate.[1]
DeWeese is a retired municipal court judge, serving from 1989 to 2010. He David formed his own law firm in 1989. DeWeese started his legal career in the office of former State Senator Jimmy Cafiero. He went on to become a municipal court judge and retired from the bench in 2010. He is also the head coach of the Wildwood Catholic High School boys basketball team, serving as such for over 20 years.
DeWeese graduated from Wildwood High School in 1976, Wake Forest University in 1980 and Law School at Mercer University in 1983.

DeWeese was defeated in the 2011 election for New Jersey Senate District 1. DeWeese defeated Republican candidate Thomas Greto in the primary on June 7, 2011. Incumbent Jeff Van Drew defeated him in the general election took place on November 8, 2011.[2]

Speculation
PolitickerNJ notes that District 1 appears to have Republican leanings--on paper. However, strong historical support for Senator Jeff Van Drew (D) calls the predictive power of these figures into question. However, NJSpotlight notes that Republicans seem to be focused on reclaiming the district's assembly seats. Nevertheless, redistricting has weakened the Republican base in District 1.[3][4]
