George Noujaim ran for at-large representative on the Waterbury Board of Education in Connecticut as a Connecticut Independent Party candidate. He was defeated in the general election on November 3, 2015.[1]

Biography

Noujaim graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1998 and earned a B.S. in business management from Central Connecticut State University in 2003. From 2003 to 2014, he was a master general agent with American Income Life. In 2015, he became a sales executive at Mutual of Omaha.[2]

He served on the Waterbury Board of Alderman from November 2011 to May 2013. He resigned from the post after facing criticism for attending only one board meetings between October 2012 and his resignation due to a temporary job assignment in Florida.[3]

Noujaim is the nephew of State Rep. Selim Noujaim (R-74). Rep. Noujaim criticized George during his absence from Waterbury Board of Alderman meetings in 2012 and 2013. The representative released a statement airing his view on the matter. The statement can be read in full by clicking [show] on the right side of the bar below.

In June 2013, Noujaim was arrested on a domestic battery charge in West Palm Beach, Fla. The charges were dropped after his girlfriend, who made the allegations, would not cooperate with authorities.[6]

Five of the nine seats on the Waterbury Board of Education were up for at-large general election on November 3, 2015. Democratic incumbents Ann M. The other seat was won by Connecticut Independent Party (CIP) nominee John Theriault.

Republican incumbent McEntee and newcomer Besa Kalici were also nominated by their party for the election, but placed seventh and eight, respectively, out of the nine candidates seeking six available seats. The Connecticut Independent Party also nominated Danielle Albert and George Noujaim, who were both defeated in the general election.[1] The three CIP candidates ran as a slate along with the CIP candidate for mayor, Lawrence V. De Pillo.

Noujaim provided the following statement regarding his slate campaign with Albert and Theriault on his Facebook page:

Friends vote row C for Board of Education. Why you ask? Theriault has over 30 years experience as a teacher and principal as well as 8 years already on the BOE. Noujaim (me) have served the city for years as well as BOA, ZBA and other community services. Danielle Hargrove Albert has also done a lot of community service and a mother of 3. Oh, and BY THE WAY BETWEEN THE TWO OF US WE HAVE 6 KIDS IN THE WATERBURY SCHOOL SYSTEM. So when we sit on the board we have our children's best interest and yours because they are not in private schools!!![4]
