Don Ytterberg was a 2014 Republican candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 7th Congressional District of Colorado.[1] Don Ytterberg lost the general election on November 4, 2014.

Biography

Ytterberg is an industrial engineer and small businessman. He purchased a small metal plating company in 1990 and merged it with a competitor in 2000 to form Advanced Surface Technologies. He was elected Chair of the Jefferson County Republican Party in 2009 and Vice Chairman of the Colorado Republican Party in 2011.[2]

Campaign themes

2014

Ytterberg's campaign website listed the following issues:[3]

  • Jobs: "Washington is pouring billions of dollars into more government and more bureaucracy. Government expansion is not the key to economic growth and job creation–America’s small businesses are. The signs of a robust economy are when jobs in manufacturing, agriculture and extraction (mining and energy) are plentiful. These industries harness our natural resources and turn them into the things we need – cars, parts for computers, food and so on."
  • Fiscal Discipline: "Spending in Washington is out of control. Career politicians think they can spend without consequence. Congress should start acting more like the millions of Americans who face difficult financial decisions every day. When credit and money are tight, tough choices and trade-offs are made around the kitchen table at home."
  • Healthcare: "The President's Health Care Law clearly isn’t what he promised and while we shouldn’t go back to the way things were, his health care law clearly isn’t working. President Obama and the Democratic Congress created a massive new entitlement that America cannot afford and that continues to decline in popularity the more we learn that we can’t keep our health insurance or the doctors of our choice."
  • Immigration: "America is a nation of immigrants. Most of our ancestors were immigrants. But for many years the U.S. has not consistently enforced the existing immigration laws on the books. This lack of responsible enforcement is unfair to those immigrants who play by the rules and is destructive to our national security and economy."
  • National Defense: "The world changed on September 11, 2001, and our country must remain vigilant in a global war on terror and maintain the best military in the world. Colorado’s military installations and companies involved in the defense sector play a pivotal role in defending our nation at home and abroad."
