John Pekas is a judge for the Second Judicial Circuit in South Dakota. He was elected to the court on November 4, 2014, and assumed office on January 6, 2015. His eight-year term expires in January 2023.[1]

Pekas ran for election to the Second Judicial Circuit.
Primary: He was successful in the primary on June 3rd, 2014, receiving 30.4 percent of the vote. He competed against John Hinrichs and Marc Feinstein.
General: He defeated John Hinrichs in the general election on November 4, 2014, receiving 52.7 percent of the vote.

Education
Pekas received his undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska and his J.D. degree from the University of South Dakota School of Law in 1993.[3]
Career
From 2001 until his election to the court in 2014, Pekas served as a commissioner for Minnehaha County. He also previously maintained his own private law practice in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and taught at the National American University.[3]
