Delaware selects legislative leaders
November 28, 2012
DOVER, Delaware: Democrats in the Delaware General Assembly selected their leaders for the next session on November 20.[1] The President Pro Tem of the state senate and the Speaker of the state house were selected in closed door meetings, but still need to be confirmed by full votes in the state senate and state house.[2]
Pete Schwartzkopf (D) was selected as the next state house Speaker and Patricia Blevins (D) as the next President Pro Tem of the state senate.[2]
Because Democrats have such a strong majority in both chambers following the general election, with a 13-8 majority in the senate and a 27-14 majority in the house, the confirmations are expected to be just a formality.[2]
The senate will return for a special session on December 5, 2012 to consider judicial appointments and will likely confirm the leadership selections then, while the house will not resume session until mid-January.[2][3]
