Parkway Schools is a school district in Missouri that serves St. Louis County. The district was the 10th-largest school district in the state in the 2014-2015 school year and served 16,393 students.[1]

Parkway Schools is located in St. Louis County, Missouri.

Parkway Schools is located in east-central Missouri in St. Louis County. The county seat is Clayton. St. Louis County was home to 1,003,362 residents between 2010 and 2015, according to the United States Census Bureau.[2]

Demographics

St. Louis County outperformed Missouri as a whole in terms of higher education achievement from 2011 to 2015. The United States Census Bureau found that 41.6 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree or higher, compared to 27.1 percent for the state as a whole. The median household income in the county was $59,755, compared to $48,173 for the entire state. County residents lived below the poverty level at a rate of 10.3 percent, while that rate was 14.8 percent for the state as a whole.[2]

The current superintendent of Parkway Schools is Dr. Keith Marty, who was appointed to the position in July 2011. Prior to Parkway, Marty had served as the superintendent of Menomonee School District for ten years. He has his Bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, his Master's from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and his doctorate from Cardinal Stritch University.[3]

Members of the Parkway Board of Education are elected to three-year terms. Three seats were up for election in 2014, two seats were up for election in 2015 and 2016, respectively, and three seats were up for election in 2017.

Public participation in board meetings

The Parkway Board of Education maintains the following policy on public testimony during board meetings:[4]

Public comments are welcome at each regular board meeting during the period designated for citizen statements. To address the board, a sign-up sheet is provided between 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the entry table. Citizens will be called to the podium by the board president to make their statement. Those who address the board are also asked to provide a written statement. Those who do not wish to address the board may fill out the comment sheet located at the sign-in table.[5]

Budget

From 1993 to 2013, the Parkway school district had an average of $184,538,048 in revenue and $189,309,524 in expenditures, according to the United States Census Bureau's survey of school system finances. The district had a yearly average of $95,814,095 in outstanding debt. The district retired $12,917,571 of its debt and issued $18,126,857 in new debt each year on average.[6]

For the 2012-2013 school year, Parkway Schools students earned an average Missouri Assessment Program index score of 389.9. Students scored highest in English language arts with an index score of 403.3, but they scored lowest in social studies with an index score of 370.3.
