As of October 28, 2019, 916 candidates have filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to run for president.[1] This page lists the names of every candidate who has registered with the FEC and their party affiliation.
A candidate for president must be a natural-born citizen of the United States, at least 35 years old, and a resident of the United States for at least 14 years.[2]
A candidate may declare his or her candidacy at any time, but once he or she receives contributions or make expenditures in excess of $5,000, the candidate must register with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) within 15 days.[2]

Notable candidates
The following four notable candidates ran for president. Notable candidates include individuals who have qualified to appear on enough state ballots to win a majority—at least 270 electoral votes—in the Electoral College.[3] A complete list of candidates registered with the Federal Election Commission can be found here.

This table lists candidates who have filed with the FEC to run for president. Some applicants use pseudonyms; candidate names and party affiliations are written as they appear on the FEC website on the date that they are initially filed with the FEC.
