Barbara J. Hengels is an at-large member of the School District 54 Board of Education in Illinois. She was first appointed to the board in June 1997.[1]

Hengels ran for re-election won in the general election on April 7, 2015.[2][3]

Hengels lives in Elk Grove Village. She has served on a number of organizations and committees, including the PTA, the booster club, BSA Troop 198, the Community Character Coalition of Elk Grove and the Education Commission of the States 100 District Leaders. Hengels earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Marquette University. She and her husband have four children and four grandchildren.[4]

Three of seven at-large seats on the School District 54 Board of Education were up for general election on April 7, 2015. The seats held by incumbents William Harper, Barbara J. Hengels and Mary Kay Prusnick were on the ballot. They ran against challengers Johannes C. Laun and Joseph Wein. All three incumbents won their bids for re-election.
