I have lived in Chandler for 25 years and have always need very involved in my community. Chandler is a top-rated city - exceptional First Responders, vibrant downtown/entertainment districts, highly productive/educated workforce, and multiple recreational opportunities. I want to utilize my experience, leaderships, and knowledge gained from 17.5 years being a small business owner, 4 years serving on the Kyrene Governing Board, and 25 years community involvement. Chandler needs to ensure we continue to have sound fiscal policies - especially during these unusual times. I have experienced balancing the need to keep core services and programs funded along with balancing a hundred-million dollar budget.
  • Public Safety - I am honored to be endorsed by the Firefighters, Police, and Sheriffs Associations. We need to hire additional police officers to keep up with Chandler's population growth. Fire Fighters must have cancer screening and treatment. Our First Responders are on the front lines fighting COVID-19 and need our support. In order to make sure our children and teachers are safe, we need to hire additional SROs at an economical cost.
  • Economic Vitality - Over the past twenty years, Chandler has done an exceptional job attracting many high profile companies from outside AZ to the area. The Price Corridor is a testament to this. I will work to refine and continue the sound economic policies that are currently in place that protects the tax base and promotes a strong economic development environment. With the coronavirus crisis, this will be even more important moving forward. My background as a small business owner, and overseeing the Kyrene School District's operational hundred-million dollar budget during the recession, enables me to understand the importance of balancing the needs of protecting core programs/services while being fiscally prudent.
  • Neighborhoods & Quality of Life - I, like most residents of Chandler, love living here because of the high quality of life Chandler has to offer - the parks, recreational centers, museums, and sports complexes. Providing affordable housing options - especially for first time homeowners and empty-nesters - is a top priority for me. I will work with the business community to create new uses for failed or vacant retail centers. Finally, I believe we need smarter growth initiative to preserve and revitalize traditional neighborhoods.
Economic Development - Chandler has entered a build-out stage. There are few remaining parcels of land available for large, affordable, master planned communities. Much of the housing development is on smaller in-fill parcels that are scattered throughout Chandler. Providing affordable housing options - especially for first time homeowners and empty-nester is something that I am passionate about. I will work with the city planners, developers, and builders to create innovative affordable housing designs. The focus should be on single family housing options, not just multi-family complexes.
Mother Teresa. She was a selfless person that committed her life to the service of others.
I believe that the most important characteristic of an elected official - especially for a non partisan position such as city council - is the ability to listen and keep an open mind. Constituents want to be heard. I will not always vote on an issue the way everyone would like, but I will always have an open door policy and welcome input.
I am very honest, direct, and a good listener. I do not have an agenda. I am running for city council because I am dedicated to making Chandler a better city.
The first historical event that I remember was Apollo 11 - "One Giant Leap For Mankind" . I remember that first moon landing. Sumer of 1969. I had just turned 6 years old.
My first job was working at Burger King after graduating from high school and prior to leaving from college. I worked throughout the summer.
