Matthew Barnebey was a candidate for the District 2 seat on the Dallas Board of Trustees in Texas. He initially filed for election against incumbent Mike Morath during the general election on May 10, 2014. Barnebey withdrew his name from the ballot on February 14.[1] District 2 covers schools in the north and near-east sides of Dallas.[2]

Barnebey earned a B.B.A. in finance from Sam Houston State University in 2003. He served as a logistics specialists with the United States Navy from 2005 to 2012. Barnebey has worked as a sales associate at Walmart since 2012.[3]

Matthew Barnebey sought election to the District 2 seat against Mike Morath prior to his withdrawal from the race on February 14, 2014. Newcomers Lew Blackburn, Jr., Joyce Foreman, D. Marcus Ranger, Carlos Sherman and Bertha Bailey Whatley filed for the District 6 seat held by Carla Ranger. Ranger did not file for re-election by the February 28 deadline. Miguel Solis sought re-election for the District 8 seat against challengers Kristi Lara and Richard P. Sheridan.
