Political career
Hawaii Chairperson of Land and Natural Resources (2015–2022)
Case served as chairperson from April 2015 to December 2022. She was appointed to the statewide position by Gov. Ige.[4] The chairperson heads the Hawaii Board of Land and Natural Resources, a seven-person state body responsible for conserving and managing Hawaii's natural resources. The chairperson is the board's executive and directly manages the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources, the agency responsible for implementing the board's policies.
Appointments
2015
On April 7, 2015, Case was appointed chairperson of the Hawaii Board of Land and Natural Resources by Gov. David Ige (D). Senators voted 23-0 to approve Case's appointment on April 24.[1]
Ige's initial choice for the position was Carleton Ching, but the nomination was met with opposition from local groups concerned about Ching's background as a developer. Convinced that Ching's nomination would be rejected by the state senate, Ige withdrew Ching's name from contention and tapped Case for the appointment.[5][6]
