Zubair Khan

Zubair Khan is an at-large member of the Community Consolidated School District 15 Board of Education in Illinois. He was first elected to the board in the general election on April 7, 2015.[1]
Khan joined fellow challengers Jessica C. Morrison and David Gurion to form a candidate slate for the 2015 general election. They supported each other's candidacies and asked voters to put all three of them on the board.[2] They faced another slate of candidates called "Vote 1-2-3 for District 15" that included incumbents Gerard Iannuzzelli and Manjula V. Sriram and challenger Frank Annerino.[3] Neither candidate slate was successful. Only Sriram won her bid for re-election in the "Vote 1-2-3 for District 15" slate, and only two members of the challenger slate, Morrison and Khan, won election to the board.[1]
Biography
Khan works as an attorney. He earned his bachelor's degree in economics and philosophy from Northwestern University and his juris doctorate from the University of Michigan Law School. He and his wife have three children, one son and two daughters.[4]
Elections
2015
Three of the seven at-large seats on the Community Consolidated School District 15 Board of Education were up for general election on April 7, 2015. The seats of incumbents Scott Herr, Gerard Iannuzzelli and Manjula V. Sriram were on the ballot. Herr did not file to run for re-election, leaving Iannuzzelli and Sriram to run against the following five challengers: Frank Annerino, David Gurion, Zubair Khan, Jessica C. Morrison and Joshua N. Perry.
Two candidate slates emerged in this election. Incumbents Gerard Iannuzzelli and Manjula V. Sriram formed a slate with challenger Frank Annerino called "Vote 1-2-3 for District 15," referencing their ballot placements. Challengers David Gurion, Zubair Khan and Jessica C. Morrison also formed a slate. Both groups asked voters to place all three candidates in the slate on the school board.
Neither candidate slate was fully successful, though members of both slates won seats on the board. Only Sriram won her bid for re-election in the "Vote 1-2-3 for District 15" slate, and only two members of the challenger slate, Morrison and Khan, were elected to the board.

Funding
School board candidates in Illinois are only required to file campaign finance reports if they accept contributions or make expenditures in excess of $5,000 in a 12-month period.[5]
Khan reported no contributions or expenditures to the Illinois State Board of Elections in this election.[6]

Community Consolidated School District 15 is located in Cook County in northeastern Illinois. The county seat of Cook County is Chicago. Cook County was home to 5,240,700 residents in 2013, according to the United States Census Bureau.[8] During the 2011-2012 school year, Community Consolidated School District 15 was the 19th-largest school district by enrollment in Illinois and served 12,663 students.[9]
Demographics
Cook County outperformed the rest of Illinois in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 34.7 percent of Cook County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 31.4 for Illinois as a whole. The median household income for Cook County was $54,548, while it was $56,797 for the entire state. The poverty rate in Cook County was 16.9 percent compared to 14.1 percent statewide.[8]
