John Avalos
John Avalos was a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in California, representing District 11. Avalos assumed office in 2009. Avalos left office in 2017.
Avalos ran for election to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors to represent District 11 in California. Avalos lost in the general election on November 3, 2020.
Avalos is a former member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in California, representing District 11. He was elected to the board of supervisors in 2008. Avalos was not eligible to run for re-election in 2016 due to term limits.[1]
In 2011, Avalos ran for Mayor of San Francisco. With 19.3% of the vote, he came in second place, behind Edwin M. Lee.[2]
Biography
Avalos was born in Wilmington, California. He obtained a B.A. in English literature from the University of California, Santa Barbara and an M.A. in social work from California State University. His professional experience includes working as a community organizer for Coleman Advocates for Children and Youth and as a union organizer for the Justice for Janitors Campaign of the Service Employees International Union Local 1877. Coleman also worked as a legislative aide for former San Francisco Supervisor Chris Daly.[1]
