Ballotpedia provides comprehensive election coverage of the 100 largest cities in America by population as well as mayoral, city council, and district attorney election coverage in state capitals outside of the 100 largest cities. This page is outside of that coverage scope and does not receive scheduled updates.

Kelly Pope-Black is a family court judge for the Seventh Judicial Circuit in South Carolina.[1] She was elected to the court by the South Carolina General Assembly and assumed the bench in July 2013.[2]

Education

Pope received her B.S. in sociology and political science from Presbyterian University in 1995 and her J.D. from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 2001.[3][4]

Career

Immediately prior to joining the court, Pope was a partner at the firm of Mooneyham, Berry & Pope, LLC in Greenville, South Carolina. She has also worked at the firms of Babb & Brown, P.C., Christian & Davis, and Cobourn & Saleeby, LLP, and specialized in civil litigation in the fields of family, criminal, construction, and personal injury law.[4][5]

Approach to the law

After being elected to the Seventh Judicial Circuit, Pope was quoted:

I think when you work with children who have been abused, your perspective does shift a little...[m]y primary goal will always be to protect the children of this state and to treat those who come before me fairly.[5][6]
