Angela Giron is a former Democratic member of the Colorado State Senate, representing District 3 from 2011 to 2013. She was defeated in a recall election on September 10, 2013, and replaced by George Rivera (R).[1]

Biography

Giron graduated from Colorado State University-Pueblo. Her professional experience included working as vice president of operations for Boys & Girls Club/Girls Incorporated and a congressional aide to U.S. Senator Ken Salazar and U.S. Senator Michael Bennet.

Giron was considered a potential Democratic challenger to incumbent Republican 3rd District Rep. Scott Tipton in the 2014 U.S. House elections. However, she did not seek election.[2]

Giron unsuccessfully defended her seat in the recall election on September 10. George Rivera (R) was selected to replace her in Colorado State Senate District 3.[3][4][1]

In May 2013, Giron was targeted for recall due to her support of gun control legislation. Proponents of the recall needed to collect 11,500 valid signatures by June 10 to force a recall election. More than 13,500 signatures were turned in to the Colorado Secretary of State, who certified them.[5][6] Giron was successfully recalled. George Rivera (R) was chosen to replace her in the Colorado State Senate.[7]
