Campaign website

Barnes' campaign website stated the following:

My Platform

A Mayor that Shows Up

First and foremost, Evansville needs a Mayor who is present, involved, and deeply committed to our community:

  • An active, accessible Mayor who represents Evansville every day
  • A collaborative partner who works constructively with City Staff and City Council
  • A visible leader who attends and supports community events

Clear, Consistent Communication

City government should be transparent, understandable, and easy to engage:

  • A user-friendly website with up-to-date information
  • FAQ’s in plain language
  • Clear explanations of city spending, priorities and outcomes

Responsible Spending and Smart Borrowing

As I often do, budgeting for my small business, our city must make tough but thoughtful decisions

  • A strong emphasis on fiscal responsibility and long-term financial planning
  • Reducing unnecessary interest costs so tax dollars work for residents, not lenders
  • Limiting borrowing until the city has paid down our debt on past capital improvement projects such as the Aquatic Center
  • Ensure we are managing our utilities for the greatest benefit to the citizens

Growing our Tax Base Through Economic Development

Evansville cannot tax its way to sustainability- we must grow:

  • A renewed focus on attracting manufacturing and industrial employers
  • Strategic efforts to entice new businesses that create jobs and help offset the property tax burden
  • Development of city owned properties and under utilized spaces within our business district
  • Honest evaluation of missed opportunities, including large-scale projects like the proposed soybean processing plant, to ensure we are competitively moving forward.
  • Consideration and long-term planning for development of a modern business and industrial park

I’m running with a practical, people-first vision. Evansville deserves a mayor who is engaged, transparent, and willing to make hard choices. My goal is to strengthen our community and plan responsibly for the future.
