Adam Conrad is the North Carolina 5th Superior Court Division Special Judge for Complex Business Cases. He assumed office on December 23, 2016. His current term ends on December 23, 2026.

This office is outside of Ballotpedia's coverage scope and does not receive scheduled updates. Our scope includes all elected federal and state officeholders as well as comprehensive coverage of the 100 largest cities in America by population.

Conrad was appointed as a special superior court judge by Gov. Pat McCrory (R). He was reappointed to this seat by Roy Cooper (D) on March 18, 2021, after Conrad's term expired on December 23, 2021.[1][2]

The North Carolina Superior Courts are split into five divisions and 48 districts. Superior court judges rotate among the districts within their division every six months.[3] However, superior court judges are elected by voters in their district and must reside in the district in which they are elected.[4]

Education

Conrad earned a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Notre Dame and received his J.D. from the University of Georgia, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and editor in chief of the Georgia Law Review.[5]

Career

Conrad clerked for Judge David Sentelle of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and Justice Clarence Thomas of the United States Supreme Court. Before joining the North Carolina Business Court in 2016, Conrad was a partner in King & Spalding’s national appellate practice.[5]
