Lee ran for Texas Railroad Commission in 2012. He lost to incumbent Barry Smitherman, Greg Parker and Elizabeth Murphy-Kolb in the May 29 Republican Primary.[1]

Jaime Perez ran on the Libertarian ticket and Josh Wendel ran for the Green Party. The general election took place on November 6, 2012.
Lee was originally running for election to the U.S. House representing the 33rd Congressional District of Texas.[2]
