Alabama Winston County Judge of Probate Amendment (2012)
A Winston County Judge of Probate Amendment was a legislatively referred constitutional amendment on the November 6, 2012 ballot in Winston County, Alabama, where it was approved.
The measure required that the judge of probate be paid based on the population of Winston County. Prior to the amendment, the judge of probate was paid at 90 percent of the raid that a district judge was paid.[1]

Text of measure
The language that will appear before voters in Winston County reads as follows:
Relating to Winston County, proposing an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, to provide for the judge of probate to be compensated on a salary basis and to provide for the onestop issuance of motor vehicle license plates by the judge of probate.
Local constitutional amendments in Alabama
This measure was on the ballot in the state of Alabama. However, this question only appeared in its respective county for residents to vote on. The reason being was that in order to pass local county laws, an amendment to the state constitution is needed. Alabama mandates that county governments seek legislative approval or legislatively referred constitutional amendment ballot measures for approval of laws.
