Alvin "Al" Austin (North Carolina)
Al Austin was a Democratic member of the Charlotte City Council in North Carolina, representing District 2 from 2013 to 2017. He resigned from the city council on July 16, 2017, to accept the position of outreach director to Historically Black Colleges and Universities at the North Carolina Department of Transportation.[1][2]
Biography
Austin was raised in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood, attending Lincoln Heights Elementary, Albemarle Road Junior High, and Independence High School. He earned a B.S. in administration of criminal justice and sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.[1]

The city of Charlotte, North Carolina, held elections for mayor and city council on November 3, 2015. A primary took place on September 15, 2015. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was July 17, 2015.[4] In the District 2 race, incumbent Alvin "Al" Austin defeated Steven Jones in the Democratic primary, while Justin Dunn was unopposed in the Republican primary. Austin defeated Dunn in the general election.[5][6][7]
