I have been dealing with the issues of, and been an advocate in, our district for 9 years. Prior to that I followed the nationwide problems plaguing our schools and decided it was time to run for office.
- Stopping the agendas in our schools
- Teacher funding and retention
- Accountability
I am passionate about parents retaining their rights to their children while in the care of the schools. School choice is imperative in helping parents put their children into educational facilities that will benefit them most. Accountability and transparency in everything a school board does is important for parental, district and community relations. School boards need to know they can say no to government monies and assistance, including mitigation demands, especially when they violate their community’s rights federally and within state law. Proper educational material should be the only option for teaching our children, not stemming from agendas.
I look up to Christ and my parents. My parents taught me by example and made me realize that earning my way through life and earning respect from those around me are the two most important things I will carry in life. Help those around you when needed, lead by example and look to Christ and God for help in your toughest and best times. Prayer goes everywhere with you in life!
The Constitution and the movie War Room.
				Honesty, integrity, transparency and openness.
Leadership, organizational skills, researching, life knowledge, professionalism, honesty, integrity, ability to stand on my own, work with others, deal with adverse situations and prayerfulness.
In my case, the core responsibilities will be to answer to the community, parents, students and staff of the district. Have an open door policy and be accessible as possible.
The long gas lines with the OPEC situation. I was 8.
Working at a shoe store for about 2 years.
To be fiscally responsible with funding and to implement proper curriculum for the district. They cannot create law, but follow it.
Those of the Vail School District and anyone I help outside the district.
Utilizing the Constitution, the federal laws and those of the state. It is a constant cycle of ebb and flow with the ever changing needs of our students, staff, and community. No system is perfect, but when you can work with the community as a whole, call together students, staff and teachers, we can find common ground and obtain the solutions necessary to solve the problems at hand.
I plan on visiting our local businesses, go door to door, send emails, plan regular community outreach events, and contact school advocates who will work with us to create a stronger community and district.
No. I believe that recruiting and hiring should be done on the best qualifications and standards necessary to fulfill open positions in our district. Hiring on merit is the best way to ensure we get the best people for the positions needing to be filled.
Currently, agendas mandated by certain organizations and entities, including our department of education, should never be the driving factors for what they feel is necessary when, in fact, it is not. The teaching of gender fluidity, sexuality (unless parent approved with proper curriculum), pronoun identity, etc has no place in our education system.
Good teaching means presenting proper curriculum without injecting personal influence or bias on behalf of the teacher. In fact, presenting two sides to arguments and allowing students to come to their own conclusions through research and facts should be the norm. Testing and benchmarks should present understanding of the basics. In other words, teaching to measure student knowledge is also a reflection on how well the teacher is getting across to their students.
Advanced teaching should focus on the strength of the knowledge capture of the student. Push the envelope and not hold the child back! Let them learn to their fullest capacity. Likewise, putting kids forward after failing a grade is the worst thing you can do for a student.
I would like to see the return of home economics, marriage and family classes, accounting, Constitution and American history classes as well as other business prep courses in the middle and high schools. Currently we do have high schools and college prep schools who offer trades as part of their curriculum studies. This needs to grow and expand.
Schools are properly funded now, but are too heavy in administration. Cutting out unnecessary positions will help to free up funding to be used for teacher pay and expanding pay gap shortages. Spending money on unnecessary programs should be cut as well. Our district gets no federal scholarships or funding except for the school lunch program. Because we are unincorporated we are held to the tax base, of which 45% goes to the schools. Any additional funds are received through bonds and proposition.
My principles are first line of defense and security of our students and staff. I believe there should be armed security on all campuses.
Partnering with local organizations, medical facilities, and other medical professionals who can be at our disposal to help those students, faculty, and staff who may need emotional support or assistance during their time of need. This should only be done in partnership on behalf of a student with full support and knowledge by and for the parents of that student!
Honestly, I would like to see technology limited in and outside the classroom in the future! I believe that going back to the majority of teachings being on paper as opposed to online is more appropriate! Most students cannot function with paper and pen in hand, and that needs to return as a basis of learning. We understand that technology is here to stay, but proper use of it should also be taught!
I believe that parents should be the one making the decisions as to whether or not their child should attend school during some sort of pandemic claim. The Covid issue brought to light numerous problems, and created more problems than solutions for how to handle that particular situation at the time! In fact, letting the parents choose will serve far better than the schools being the determining factor.
I would like to plan regular town halls for our parents, more family and parent gatherings, allow parents to visit classrooms while their children are in school to see how their students function during class, encourage them to be more active with teachers and not take that relationship for granted. For too long parents were pulled into a security they believed was accurate, but wasn’t. I want to be very proactive in cultivating a stronger relationship between the district body and the parents.
