My name is Jennifer Anderson, and I am running for a position on the Vail Unified

School District Governing Board. I believe in Vail’s motto – Where Education Is a Community Effort. I was born and raised in Tucson and met the love of my life there. After the birth of our third son, my family then moved to Vail 16 years ago, and we have enjoyed raising our family here. I have three adult children, one freshman in high school, and one child in middle school. Like so many highly engaged parents here, I was welcomed into the schools from the beginning, and I have been following my little ones to school ever since! I love the unique culture in Vail whose mission is to provide parents with nurturing schools and high-quality education for their children. I’ve loved serving here. While being a successful Realtor in the Vail and Tucson area, I have made time to be ever-present in the Vail School District and have spent a decade and a half supporting the schools through various PTA’s, site councils, booster boards, committees, and more. I have served on the boards of several local organizations from Greater Vail Community Resources (assisting people facing food insecurity) to the Desert Crown Theater Company to

the Long Realty Cares Board.
  • Our students’ successes both academically and personally are always going to be our priority to ensure their bright futures. We have all been impacted by the pandemic and the loss of interaction and instruction that takes place in the classroom. Some of my most pressing concerns for students are the loss of learning and meeting academic standards. The dedicated teachers of our district worked very hard to meet the individual needs of each of their students while teaching remotely. However, remote learning took a toll on so many of our kids. I know the Vail School District has been working diligently on programs to help students get caught up through their Reteach and Enrich Program, as well as tutoring. I want to make sure this continues.
  • I feel that our goals as a District should be represented in our budget. As a Board, we are representing our tax paying community and are charged with ensuring our District meets the best interests of the students. Items of priority are salaries to hire and retain employees, expanding academic support, improving site safety and security, continuing to upgrade buildings, adding additional mental health supports, working on student retention, supporting students with disabilities, supporting students as they prepare for college, trade schools & vocational programs, and providing outstanding fine arts programs. I want to represent what is important to our schools and our community.
  • I love Vail. It is my home. Our schools are a big part of the community that my family enjoys here. I have enjoyed being involved throughout our community for the last 16 years. I want to help keep the Vail culture which is the reason many people are drawn to this area and the culture my family has been blessed with. I want to be a solution to help unify and find common ground in our community. Serving on site council helped me recognize needs and to advocate respectfully and effectively. As a PTA President I worked to build unity and trust between parents and teachers. On a Booster Board I worked to meet the needs of the organization and still make sure individual needs were met.
I want our district and public education throughout Arizona to be a place where all students are provided a quality education.
An english teacher I had in high school. Her name is Ms. Franzblau. She instilled a love in a subject that I didn't know I loved. She taught me how to connect with literature and with people.
The first historical event I remember is in November of 1989 when the Berlin wall came down. I was eleven years old and I remember watching it at school.
I worked at Lerner New York and Park Place Mall. I worked there for about a year during high school. In my professional career I became a Realtor and have worked for the past 18 years in the Tucson and Vail area.
We all have different views and life experiences, and those differences bring value to a Board. Good relationships with others have enabled me to have meaningful discussions to work through differences as I have served on various Boards and Committees. That does not mean we always all agree. One of the Vail School District Governing Board goals is to “model the standard in the district,” and then “make governance decisions based on what each board member believes is in the best interest of the District and the students in the District”. I believe it is important that we share with, and listen to, each other. Once we vote, it is our responsibility to respect the process, support that decision, and move forward united.
The Greater Vail Community. It includes parents, grandparents, and community members.
