An Ann Arbor School District Levy Increase measure was on the May 8, 2012 ballot in the Ann Arbor school district area which is in Washtenaw County.
This measure was approved
- YES 8,409 (70.35%)
- NO 3,544 (29.65%)[1]
This measure was changed to a later date and made a bond issue instead of a levy increase. The bond will be in the amount of $46 million and a levy of $.48 per $1,000 of assessed property would also be implemented to pay for the bond. The bond will go towards upgrading technology throughout the district. School officials have noted the out dated technology in the district and the need to upgrade technology infrastructure along with buying new tech for the students to use.[2]
This measure was originally going to increase the current property tax by a rate of .5 mills for a period of ten years. The additional money will go towards upgrading technology throughout the district. School officials had debated on the date to propose the levy, they had decided on February and not November as there would be more time to decide the language with a February election date and the time between the two election dates would not make much difference for the schools getting the money, if the measure is approved. School officials also noted that the need for upgrades in technology is needed, it was only a question of timing the proposal.[3]

The question on the ballot:
| Shall the Public Schools of the City of Ann Arbor, County of Washtenaw, Michigan, borrow the principal sum of not to exceed Forty-Five Million Eight Hundred Fifty-Five Thousand Dollars ($45,855,000) and issue its unlimited tax general obligation bonds for the purpose of defraying the cost of making the following improvements: acquiring and installing instructional technology and technology infrastructure and equipment in the School District; and associated remodeling, equipping, furnishing, reequipping and refurnishing of existing School District buildings?[4][5] |
