Balena Shorter is an at-large representative on the Fairfield City School District Board of Education. She was appointed to the board in 2009. Shorter sought another term in the general election on November 3, 2015.[1] Balena Shorter won the general election on November 3, 2015.

Shorter is a senior engineer at Belcan Engineering. She is a member of the Fairfield Township Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association. She serves on the parent resource team for the district and volunteers in her children's classrooms. Shorter received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She went on to earn a master's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Cincinnati.[2]

Two of the five seats on the Fairfield City School District Board of Education were up for election on November 3, 2015. All members represent the district at-large.

Incumbents Jerome Kearns and Balena Shorter won re-election to their seats. Leila Kubesch filed to run against the incumbents but withdrew from the race.[3][4][5]
