Four of the seven seats on the Rio Grande City Consolidated Independent School District school board were up for general election on November 8, 2016. Leticia Lopez defeated fellow newcomer Lorenza Martinez in the Place 1 race. Place 2 incumbent Noe Gonzalez lost to Eleazar Velasquez. Basilio Villarreal was defeated by Daria Babineaux in the race for the Place 4 seat. Place 4 incumbent Daniel Garcia defeated fellow board member Ruben Klein for the Place 5 seat. Garcia opted to run against Klein rather than seek re-election to the Place 4 seat.[1]
