C. Joseph Schwedler

C. Joseph Schwedler is the chief judge for the 41st Circuit Court, the 95B District Court and the Iron County Probate Court in Michigan.[1] He has served as a district and probate court judge since 1990. In 1999, he gained jurisdiction over the circuit court as part of a trial court demonstration project, which consolidated Iron County trial courts.[2] His term expires in 2018.[3]
Education
Schwedler received his B.A. from the University of Detroit in 1973 and his J.D. from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1976.[2]
Career
Schwedler began his career in 1976 as a private practice lawyer in Crystal Falls, Mich. He worked in that position until 1999. He also served as a township attorney for Mastodon and Hematite and then as a city attorney of Crystal Falls from 1980 to 1999. He became a judge of the district and probate courts in 1990 and has presided over the circuit court as well since 1999.[2]
2012 election
Schwedler defeated Mark D. Tousignant in the general election on November 6, winning 51.78 percent of the vote.[4][5]
