I am a fifth-generation Kansan who has lived in Topeka most of the past 40 years. I have lived and voted in Topeka District 6 for 28 years. I am uniquely qualified to represent Topeka District 6.
  • We need to grow Topeka's economy with lower property taxes, smaller government and tax incentives for developers.
  • We need to keep Topeka safe by supporting the police and encourage prosecution of violent and non-violent crimes.
  • Protect Topeka's water supply and repair the streets. Some of the water mains in Topeka are over 60-years old.
As a fiscal conservative I am passionate about shrinking the size of Topeka's government and lowering the tax burden of Topeka citizens. City government's main responsibility is public safety. That includes law enforcement, streets and the city water supply. This year Topeka surpassed last year's total number of Homicides in the first six months. Some of our city streets are in serious disrepair. Potholes are an annual problem. Water main breaks are frequent. In 2014 a home in District 6 was pushed off its foundation when an 86-year-old water main broke releasing 4 million gallons of water. We have 890 miles of water mains in Topeka with over 200 miles being over 100 years old. In less than a year City Manager Stephen Wade added 34 new positions including seven paying more than $100,000 a year. Topeka currently has 1,330 full-time employees and 24 temporary employees. Eliminating the positions that are related to "social engineering" would save Topeka millions of dollars. The city recently purchased a hotel for $7.6 million dollars that was appraised at this year at $3 million. The city has no business buying hotels.
