There are citizens sleeping on the streets when the city council holds a list of 74 sites predetermined to be feasible for camping. I am a common laborer chosen to assist in getting those people into safe spaces where the city can provide basic services. I am an option for any Portland citizen interested in immediately ending the street camping crisis. I am a tool if needed by the people.
  • Stop all non-essential city business and Get the street campers to safe spaces NOW
  • Stop all non-essential city business and Get the street campers to safe spaces NOW
  • Stop all non-essential city business and Get the street campers to safe spaces NOW
I am here solely to address the street camping crisis in Portland. We have city owned spaces available NOW that would be more humane, sanitary, and dignified for our street camping community. I am passionate about being the end of all debates. The end of the planning. And the end to sitting behind a desk trying to end this crisis with future projects. Today the problem can end if all non essential city business is suspended until every street campers is relocated to city owned spaces.
Our system of government is broken. Portland does not have a single leader to resolve disputes and finalize decisions. Portland has 5 people of equal power with individual interests. We have the finest politicians but a system that simply is to slow and outdated for the management of a city this size. It has been the cause for the alarming growth of the street camping situation. It has proven to be ineffective in resolving the issue or bringing it into a manageable state for several years. The Mayor has mandated an extension of the EMERGENCY status of the street camping issue for another three years. That alone should indicate the failures of our system. We simply cannot leave citizens sleeping on our streets for three more years. We must do something drastic. It is time to get into some good trouble and take over city hall. I believe in the People of Portland. We can do what the politicians cannot.
Rep John Lewis is the person I turn to when I am faced with a problem. He stood in the face of hatred and stared it down. He did not always take the easy road. And he was not afraid to say what had to be said. The battles he fought were not his own but were for the people he so dearly loved. Today the people of Portland need his strength to set aside politics for the good of the people. John Lewis once said the vote is the most powerful weapon we have. It is time we cast ours for a better Portland NOW.
What I would like to recommend is that every citizen of Portland send a blank email to pdxcontract@gmail.com. Examine the plan to end street camping. Ask yourself if it is feasible. See the simplicity of the plan. All it does is order the city council to the streets to properly serve the people. A simple act of humanity. The issue is not as complicated as we have made it.
Every city worker, in every agency, must be dedicated to serving the needs of the people. A civil servant is not a God. They must have the mental fortitude to understand their limitations and be brave enough to ask for help. What can we say about a government that has left our people sleeping on the streets for years with the intention of continuing the process three more years. We can only say it is a failure. It is time for the people to act. We have to admit our system is broken and do something different. To continue down the same path knowing it leads to failure is an act of hopelessness. Portland is not hopeless. I am offering the people an opportunity to break out of the trap we are in and do something different.
I will make the worst office holder in Portland's history. Everyone will hate me. But in six months there won't be any citizen left alone and uncared for on our city streets.
The only responsibility of this office is to insure the safety and well being of the people it represents. When we talk about the street camping crisis it is often overlooked that these are citizens of the city of Portland. They may be troubled and broken but they are citizens and must be upheld as such. The people are the core responsibility and if a politician took office when citizens were sleeping on the streets and they are still sleeping on the streets two years later then the politician has failed in their core responsibilities and should resign. How can the politicians sleep in warm beds at night knowing their citizens are out in the rain. If you can not serve the needs of the people then every politician should have the moral obligation of removing themselves for the good of the people.
A happy Portland where the mentally disabled and struggling addict can still find help and compassion.
Lord Of the Rings. I still believe in magic.
"Why me lord" by kris. Kristoferson
My mental health. It took me way to long to figure out it wasn't all of you who were crazy. It was me. The struggle was finding a way to make it work for everyone.
This office is dysfunctional and useless until our form of government is restructured. Any politician that assumes this office will be doomed to the same obstacles and restrictive powers. It is an ineffective position for any politician to solve our current crisis. I am not a politician. If the people put me in this position I will go as a simple laborer with a specific task to complete and instructions to follow. I will not be there to make big decisions about Portlands future. My task will be to join our council members on the streets of Portland to personally assist each and every street camper in relocating to city owned and regulated property. The details for the relocation process has been clearly detailed and are available to anyone who sends a blank email to pdxcontract@gmail.com. If the People of Portland put me into office it will not be as a politician.
Yes, experience is crucial. The government process is complex and overly burdensome. It is not a good place for a novice. I have no experience. I have no desire to learn. I dont want to go. But if it is necessary it will be with a clear and concise plan of action approved by the people. I will go to do their bidding. And I go with a contract that the people can use to terminate my service at will. I am absolutely transparent and completely at the will of the people. I have no personal goals or objectives other than to serve the people in the time of crisis. I want to believe that if I stand for the people they will stand with me. The people are the power of the government. They can do what has to be done.
Today all that is needed is a strong back and a steady moral compass. I am asking that the people of Portland take over the decision making process of our broken system to resolve this crisis. I am asking the citizens to specifically order the city council to suspend all non-essential city business to focus exclusively on the street camping crisis. They have a list of 74 city owned properties that are suitable for different levels of camping. I am asking the people to order the city council to use every available city resource to physically move the campers to city owned property where they can be properly serviced. I am asking the citizens to order this to start immediately and continue until every camper has been removed from our streets. No special expertise will be required. Just commonsense and a willingness to truly serve the people.
No. I dont have a sense of humor. P,saying tricks on me always ends badly.
