Campaign themes
2017
Kilgore submitted the below statement to the Snohomish County voters' guide:[1]
“ | Every decision concerning our public schools reflects our values. My values are simple:
I believe every child deserves an excellent public education regardless of race, ethnicity, sex, gender, orientation, or ability to pay. I’ve seen budget impacts firsthand as a school volunteer, including makeshift classrooms in hallways and libraries. Many schools are overcrowded and not ideal for learning, despite the heroic efforts of overworked teachers. Volunteer groups that otherwise would support music, arts, and sports are forced to raise money for basic supplies instead. Field trips, enrichment, and challenging programs are unequally available. Even if students are invited to other schools for programs they need or want, transportation is not always included. I will continue to press for funding from Olympia, but will also work for fairness at home. The District has made progress toward equity, but we must do more. Our kids need champions, creativity and community involvement. I have a strong record of bringing stakeholders together, listening to all voices, and collaborating across difference toward innovative solutions and shared goals. We all want our kids to have a fair chance, and I will fight for every child in every school. I hope to earn your vote.[5] |
