Equity in education is another issue I care deeply about. Resources have been pulled from public schools to fund new charter schools, which were created to offer opportunities not available in public schools. Instead of creating new schools with more opportunity, we should focus on increasing funding and resources for our public schools that already exist so families do not feel like they need to opt out to gain a better education. Teachers and staff deserve increased funding and resources to ensure their students are getting the best possible education. This includes a starting educator salary of $60,000.
Lastly, workers rights is an issue I plan to fight for. I have seen how ready we are to have a higher minimum wage. People want to go back to work when they are paid a wage that allows them to live comfortably. $10.50 an hour is simply not enough. It is time for us to listen. We cannot wait until 2025 for $15 to be the minimum wage, we are ready for an increase today. In addition, I support the Community Workforce Agreement Act, prevailing wage, and paid apprenticeship programs.
