Derrick Shepherd (Democratic Party) is a member of the Jefferson Parish School Board in Louisiana, representing District 5. He assumed office on January 1, 2023. His current term ends on January 1, 2027.

Shepherd (Democratic Party) won election to the Jefferson Parish School Board to represent District 5 in Louisiana outright in the primary on November 8, 2022, after the general election was canceled.

Elections for the Louisiana House of Representatives took place in 2015. A primary election was held on October 24, 2015, with a general election held in districts where necessary on November 21, 2015. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was September 10, 2015, at 4:30 p.m. CDT.[1]
Louisiana elections use the Louisiana majority-vote system. All candidates compete in the same primary, and a candidate can win the election outright by receiving more than 50% of the vote. If no candidate does, the top two vote recipients from the primary advance to the general election, regardless of their partisan affiliation.

For information about which offices are nominated via primary election, see this article. Incumbent Ebony Woodruff (D) was defeated by Rodney Lyons (D) in the October 24 blanket primary. Derrick Shepherd (D) was disqualified before the primary.[2][3]

In November 2006, Shepherd ran against incumbent Bill Jefferson in Louisiana's 2nd Congressional District. Jefferson, who was dogged by allegations of corruption, was facing a tough re-election fight. Shepherd finished third with 18 percent of the vote, behind Jefferson and Representative Karen Carter Peterson. On November 7, 2006, William J. Jefferson won re-election to the United States House. He defeated Scott Barron (D), Regina Bartholomew (D), Karen Carter (D), Troy "C" Carter (D), Deven "D.C." Collins (D), John Edwards (D), M.V. "Vinny" Mendoza (D), Derrick Shepherd (D), Eric T. Bradley (R), Joseph "Joe" Lavigne (R), Lawrence William "Lance" von Uhde III (R) and Gregory W. "Rhumbline" Kahn (L) in the primary election.

2005

In May 2005, Shepherd won a special election and became the State Senator for the 3rd District. He received 51 percent of the vote and succeeded Lambert Boissiere Jr., who had won a seat on the Louisiana Public Service Commission. Shepherd was re-elected in 2007 with 61 percent of the vote.

Shepherd was first elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives in 2003 and took office in early 2004 as the Representative for the 87th House District. He had received 60 percent of the vote.[4]
