Ronald Rice (Democratic Party) was a member of the New Jersey State Senate, representing District 28. He assumed office in 1986. He left office on August 31, 2022.

Rice (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the New Jersey State Senate to represent District 28. He won in the general election on November 2, 2021.

Rice was re-elected to a new term in 2017. He retired from the state House on August 31, 2022.[1] He died on March 15, 2023.[2]

Biography

Rice earned his A.S. in police science from Essex County College, his B.S. in administration and planning from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and his M.A. in criminal justice from Rutgers University. He also attended Rutgers School of Law. His professional experience includes working as a police officer, a college instructor, and a manager for the Public Service Gas and Electric Company. Rice served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps from 1966 to 1970.[3]

The filing deadline for the primary election was April 3, 2017.[4][5] Incumbent Ronald Rice (D) defeated Troy Knight-Napper (Green) in the New Jersey State Senate District 28 general election.[6][7]

Rice won re-election in the 2013 election for New Jersey State Senate District 28. Rice was unopposed in the June 4 Democratic primary and defeated Frank Contella (R) in the general election on November 5, 2013.[9][10][11][12]
