Donna Nelson is a former chairman of the Public Utility Commission of Texas. She was appointed as chair by Governor Rick Perry on August 15, 2008.[1] Nelson served on the commission until her resignation on May 15, 2017.[2]

Biography

Born in South Dakota, Nelson relocated to Texas to attend law school. After earning her law degree, Nelson went to work in the regulatory field. Nelson has served as an assistant attorney general of Texas, focusing on antitrust law during her time in office. Nelson was employed for a time at the Public Utility Commission, where she was in charge of the telecommunications section and served as a legal adviser to the chairman. Nelson's past career also includes time advising Gov. Rick Perry on energy and telecommunications.[1][2]

Nelson served as a member of the Texas Public Utility Commission between 2008 and 2017. She was named chairman by Gov. Rick Perry (R) on July 26, 2011.[3] Nelson was appointed to a new term by Governor Greg Abbott, which would have expired on September 1, 2021.[4] Nelson stepped down on May 15, 2017.[2]
