I am a mom of two Snowdon Elementary students, a high school science teacher at Insight School of Washington, and a wife of a professor of mathematics education at Eastern Washington University. I have lived in Cheney since 2017. When we moved to the area, we specifically chose to live in the Cheney area so we could be part of the community and our children could attend Cheney Public Schools. Education is my passion: I have been teaching for 12 years and have a master’s degree in education. I was selected to fill a vacant seat by the Cheney Public Schools board of directors in May 2023. My goal as a school board director to help support the public education in my community. My leadership experiences include being on the board of directors of the Big Sky homeowners’ association, leading science department meetings, and mentoring the middle school science professional learning community at my school, and I frequently volunteer at Snowdon Elementary.
  • Build more schools to prevent overcrowding
  • Increase communication between the district and families
  • Support school safety by providing socioemotional and mental health services
I am passionate about public education. I believe all students deserve a quality education in a safe environment. Teachers and families should work together to provide the optimal education for each students. There's no "one size fits all" learning program, and our district should provide opportunities for students to learn in ways that suit them best. Teachers need to be supported in what they, which is why paraeducators and other support staff are so important. We need to work together with open and honest communication to build the best possible district for our children.
When I was nominated to the school board in May 2023, my experience as a mother and a teacher gave me a unique perspective to the issues facing our district. I understand the parent side, wanting the best for my children. Having taught high school science for twelve years, I also know the demands placed on teachers and the struggle of balancing state and school mandates with the realities of the classroom. Now with several months of experience on the school board, I have become familiar with the “big picture” regarding Cheney Public Schools. In all my roles, I have learned how important it is for people to feel valued and heard. I try my upmost to listen to what children, parents, and community members have to say and focus on finding a positive outcome to the situation.
Hire, supervise and evaluate the superintendent

Set the vision, mission and strategic goals for the district
Review, revise and adopt policies
Establish and oversee the budget
Serve as community representatives

Monitor the district’s progress towards its goals
The communities of Cheney, West Plains, and Airway Heights
I would work to balance the needs and interests of students, teachers, and parents by encouraging open and transparent communication among all our important stakeholders using a variety of communication methods. Major decisions facing the district should be collaborative and community based. I would encourage students to participate in the superintendent advisory board or their associated student body organizations and take an active role in effecting change in our schools and district. As a fellow teacher, I would support policies that promote teacher autonomy. As both a teacher and parent, I would support policies that promote family-teacher partnerships and encourage family involvement wherever possible. My hope is to see Cheney Public Schools continue to improve and provide quality education to all of our students using evidence-based practices.
