Franklin Jones is the District 2 representative on the Dothan City Schools school board in Alabama. First appointed in 2008, Jones was automatically re-elected after he ran unopposed in the by-district general election on August 1, 2017. His name did not appear on the ballot.

Jones worked in the Dothan City Schools district for 23 years. He had retired from his position as principal of the P.A.S.S. Academy when he was appointed to the board. He also served as president of the Dothan NAACP chapter.[1]

All seven seats on the Dothan City Schools Board of Education in Alabama were up for election on August 1, 2017. Six seats were up for by-district election and one seat was up for at-large election. Five of the board's seven incumbents ran for additional terms. District 2 incumbent Franklin Jones, District 3 incumbent Susan Vierkandt, and District 6 incumbent Chris Maddox ran unopposed and were automatically re-elected as of July 10, 2017.[2] In District 1, incumbent Brenda Guilford defeated challenger Donald Hogans. District 4 incumbent Jimmy Addison lost to challenger Brett Strickland. The incumbents for the at-large seat and District 5 did not file for re-election, leaving the seats open. Mike Schmitz, Dothan City's current mayor defeated newcomer Sam Tew in the race for the at-large seat. Newcomers Amy Bonds and Stephanie Butler filed for the District 5 race. Bonds was elected to the seat.[3]
