Noteworthy cases

Bryan Stow's attackers sentenced in baseball beating case

Judge Lomeli handed down prison sentences for two men were convicted of beating Bryan Stow after a Los Angeles Dodgers game in 2011.

The incident occurred at the Dodgers' stadium on opening day, after they had played the San Francisco Giants. Stow, a Giants fan, was ambushed in the parking lot by Marvin Norwood and Louie Sanchez. They beat him severely, causing serious brain damage. Stow, at the time of the sentencing almost three years later, was still unable to take care of himself as a result of the attack.

The district attorney's office stated that the attack was unprovoked. Norwood pleaded guilty to felony assault and was sentenced to four years in prison. However, he was credited for over two years of time already served. Sanchez pleaded guilty to felony mayhem and got eight years. Judge Lomeli scolded the men, calling them cowards for their unannounced attack and adding that they didn't even show remorse.[4]
