Candidate Connection

George Schoelles completed Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey in 2019. The survey questions appear in bold and are followed by Schoelles' responses.

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

- Expand academic paths in Technical and Trade Occupational Education - Support traditional and non-traditional programs via a well-rounded curriculum for ALL students - Identify methods to increase site security and personal safety of students and teachers

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

We must do more to prepare our students to enter the workforce in the event they do not choose to immediately enter undergraduate or other studies after graduation. Integration of expanded trade and technical curriculum at the high school level coupled with a comprehensive plan of study through Regional Occupational Programs that fit students’ interests and focus on basic work skills would not only boost student achievement but would also increase the retention rate.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

A stable demeanor and the higher standards professionally, personally, and socially.

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

I have been a business owner for 30 years, married for 35 years, and am the proud father of 2 adult children who are successful in their respective fields of interest.

How will you build relationships with members of the broader community? Which groups, organizations, stakeholders will you specifically target?

My top 5 community service organizations are: - Moreno Valley Unified School District: Site Council 3 yrs., RCC Advisory Board Member, Allied Health Academy Advisory Board, Business Academy Advisory Board and Interview Program Coordinator - Rotary International (22 years): Moreno Valley Morning Past President 1995-1996, Board Member, Rotary Foundation Past Chairperson, Rotary Benefactor Designation - B.P.O.E. Moreno Valley Lodge 2697 (25 years): Past Trustee, Distinguished Citizenship Award 2007 -Moreno Valley Chamber of Commerce and Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (18 years): Board Member, Student of the Month Scholarship Program Director, Publicity Chair - Moreno Valley Optimists

In what areas would you like to expand curriculum? For example, do you see a need for advanced technical training or apprenticeships? What sort of innovative programming would you advance if given the opportunity?

The largest challenge facing our schools is the changing job market where our students will need soft skills that automated machines cannot do. Offering students hands-on coursework in tech-trades to develop their creativity, or in careers that develop social awareness and connectivity, will ensure they enter post-secondary education or the working world with relevant knowledge and life-skills to be successful adults. As a trustee I will help guide the district to ensure this happens.
