The Indiana Commission on Judicial Qualifications is a judicial disciplinary agency in Indiana.[1]

Note: State judicial disciplinary agencies do not have appellate jurisdiction or authority over federal court judges and justices.

Organization

The commission is made up of seven members: one state supreme court justice, three lawyers and three members of the public. The justice is selected by the chief judge, the three lawyers are selected by other lawyers, and the members of the public are appointed by the governor.[2]

The members of the Commission on Judicial Qualifications also make up the members of the Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission.[1]

Power

The commission is charged with determining the merit of complaints. In less serious cases, the commission may make a confidential warning, but only the Indiana Supreme Court has the jurisdiction to formally discipline judges.[1]
