For the past five years, I’ve been deeply involved in our local schools as an active officer and/or volunteer for the Lusk Elementary Middle School parent and community group. During this time, I have collaborated with parents, teachers and administrators to bring family events into the school, improve parent-staff communications, encourage student success celebrations, source assembly speakers, and fund teacher-requested enrichments.
Professionally, I bring a broad perspective to the table, holding a master’s degree in Secondary Education as well as a K-12 Principal Certificate. I have built a career in education having worked as Eastern Wyoming College Outreach Coordinator, a high school and college adjunct teacher, Career & Technical Education department coordinator, and in my present role as a corporate Learning Analyst/Trainer for K-12 schools across the United States. My work in education grant management, career learning, teacher professional development, school administration, and training/implementation has given me a strong foundation to effectively serve our district. It is important to give back to community and I am ready to step up to lend my professional knowledge to Niobrara County School District #1.- The positive changes under Superintendent Dan Schmidt are inspiring, and I believe now is the perfect time for someone with a fresh perspective to join the board. I am committed to working alongside Superintendent Schmidt and fellow board members to continuously improve our district.
- As an educator, I know that supporting NCSD #1 teachers and paraprofessionals is one of the most critical responsibilities of the school board. Our staff are at the forefront of shaping the future of our children, and they need to have the resources and respect necessary to do their jobs effectively. As a board member, I will advocate for fair compensation, ongoing professional development opportunities, and a collaborative environment where all staff feel empowered to do great things.
- In May-June 2024, three of the incumbent candidates voted in favor of including in Policy KBAA a parental notification and consent section on “instruction related to sexual orientation and gender identity.” Policies about parental consent are vital to parental rights. However, in arguably one of the most conservative counties in the nation, there were board members who let their constituency down by including mention of “training, courses, or classes that address sexual orientation and gender identity.” No matter what a person’s preferences are about this sensitive topic, it has no place in public school instruction. The incumbents who voted to pass this policy should have focused on creating policies to PROHIBIT this instructional topic.
In all of these roles, I have found the best method is to facilitate a civil discussion of the many contributing minds: board members, administrators, staff, and community stakeholders. Listening, assuming good intent, and focusing on a YES-mentality are vital. My dedication to this community is unwavering, and I’m ready to apply these skills to our local school board.
