Jane Deacy was a Republican candidate in the September 13 special election for the New York State Assembly, District 23. The special election was called to fill the vacancy created when Audrey Pheffer (D) resigned from the Assembly to become the Queens County clerk.[1][2]

Deacy is a retired NYPD officer. She was one of the first women to serve in a patrol function. Following her retirement, she became a licensed real estate broker. Deacy has also worked as a substitute teacher and tv/film actress. She graduated from SUNY-Old Westbury with a B.A. in Communications and Theater. She is married to her husband Ed; they have 3 children.[3]

Deacy was defeated by Phillip Goldfeder (D) in the September 13, 2011, special election. Deacy also ran on the Conservative Party ticket.[4]

Campaign themes

On her campaign site, Deacy outlines her campaign themes and policy goals:

Over the last several years, New York has been in decline in almost every aspect. Unemployment has skyrocketed while we lead the nation in population loss, as taxes and spending grow year after year. Every community in New York is suffering, and ours is no exception. Once elected, I will waste no time in making Queens’ voice heard at the Capitol. I will work to create jobs by cutting taxes and reducing spending. I understand the issues that impact the people of our community each and every day, which is why I will fight to improve transportation, eliminate the Cross Bay Bridge toll and keep Peninsula Hospital open. I will work to strengthen our schools, protect our children from sex offenders and keep criminals off our streets. I pledge to all my constituents that I will stand against the broken status quo in Albany and be a true reformer in state government.
