Jeff Blackburn, and I am running for Aztec City Commission - District 4. As the current City Manager, I have gained valuable experience in managing the city’s growth.
  • I support urban revitalization and redevelopment, having worked closely with economic development programs to benefit our aging buildings on Aztec’s Main Street.
  • I will prioritize infrastructure projects based on need and impact, focusing on roads, water systems, and sewage. My approach will be strategic, ensuring that improvements are made where they are needed most, with a focus on long-term benefits.
  • I have strong experience with budgeting and financial management, having successfully managed the city’s budget and made tough financial decisions to ensure the city’s financial stability.
The Aztec city code, policies, infrastructure plans, and studies need a complete review and implementation. I will work with other Commissioners and provide a strategic plan to the City Manager that is sustainable for the future of our city.
Direction interaction with the citizens. Opportunity to make a difference through service and resources.
Dave Thomas the man who established the Wendy’s fast food restaurant chain. He was an orphan who worked his way from a cook at a BBQ pit, key in establishing Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Wendy’s. He was known for his philosophy was that there is no job is to lowly for the boss to take on.
I believe ethics, commitment to duty, and cooperation, are paramount for a Commission to succeed. City staff should be treated with respect and their work and recommendations should be given due consideration before decisions are made. A Commissioner needs to understand that being elected is a great honor and needs be an ambassador as well as an example of decorum.
Review of policies, code, studies, and plans. Review and understanding of the bi-monthly agenda. Study and understanding of the budget, involvement during the preparation the budget process. Planning for infrastructure and growth. Communication and strategic planning with City Manager. Required training and study to understand state and local laws. Outreach to the community and other communities. Must be able to listen and interpret what people and peers are trying to communicate.
I struggled to be authentic when I was younger. I have learned to be more forthright and honest about what I want for myself and my work experience.
Commissioners are responsible for development of policy and the checks and balances for budget and spending.
Communication, understanding of government finances, the ability to read and interpret policy, public speaking, listening skills, understanding of local and state laws.
I have spent eighteen years of service with City of Aztec. During that time I have employee of the year and served in the department of the year.
