Jim Harney was a 2012 Republican candidate for Governor of North Carolina in the 2012 elections.[1] In a phone interview with a local news outlet, Harney said he was discouraged from running as an Independent candidate because of the signature requirements to get on the ballot.[2]

Harney ran for the Republican nomination for Governor of North Carolina.[3] He, along with Scott Jones, James Mahan, Charles Moss and Paul Wright, lost to Pat McCrory in the May 8th primary.[1]
