Candidate Connection

Joan Brinkley participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on September 21, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Joan Brinkley's responses follow below.[1]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

Stable funding for education

Better access to healthcare for all of Wyoming
Diversifying our economy to offset the boom and bust cycle[2][3]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

I believe that affordable and available healthcare is essential to a healthy and productive citizenry. People without access to affordable healthcare do not seek preventive care. They are more likely to wait until a minor issue becomes large problem which costs more to treat.

I believe that stable funding for education allows school districts to make long term plans. Students and staff should be able to rely on the continuation of successful programs without the threat of budget cuts. I would like to see the state change to a mail-in-ballot system of voting. Asking voters to visit their polling place on one particular day limits who can vote during any particular election. Mail-in-ballots allows for more flexibility and a greater opportunity for voters to be heard.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Joan Brinkley answered the following:

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow and why?

I admire Barack Obama for his style and grace under fire. He chooses his words with care and includes such a wide range of people in his vision for the future. When I listen to him speak, I cannot help but feel hope for the future.[3]
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
I believe that legislators should represent all of their constituents.[3]
