I've been blessed to work in education for nineteen years, first as a general education kindergarten teacher at a private school in Los Angeles, with the last eighteen years of my career working for LAUSD in the field of special education.

Throughout my time with LAUSD I held positions as a Behavior Implementation Intervention Provider, Special Education Assistant, Education Specialist /Learning Handicapped Special Day Programs Teacher (mild-to moderate), Education Specialist/Autism Teacher (moderate-to-severe), and as a Resource Specialist of Special Education

In my private life, I am the Founder and Director of Dinka Foundation, a community based organization dedicated to empowering, advocating for, and building the self-esteem of children with autism by providing free workshops and resources to families and teachers resulting in better educational outcomes for children with special needs and disabilities.

I am an avid reader with a voracious appetite for books, a connoisseur of dark chocolate and a volunteer/chaperone with Girl Scouts.
As someone who has taught in both mild-to-moderate and moderate-to-severe programs at all grade levels, I know first hand that the current narrative being pushed onto parents, the narrative that their child's failure is because they don't apply themselves or because their disability is such that they cannot grasp grade level concepts, is false. I know that when children are presented with a stimulating, motivating, and appealing environment, they flourish. I also know that children with disabilities want to be challenged academically. I know it, you know it, and research explicitly states it. Couple these with teaching in a culturally responsive manner using evidence-based practices rooted in differentiated instruction, and children will soar.

My job as a life-long educator is to ensure that students with special needs and disabilities have a fighting chance once they leave k-12 education and pursue higher education. Simply put, disability does not mean inability. Towards this endeavor, my #1 priority has always been, is, and will always be, special education.
