Bacon provided the following statement on her Facebook campaign page:
“ | Public education is a personal passion for me because I deeply believe education can improve lives. As the daughter of two public school teachers and first-generation college graduates, education was a top priority growing up in my family. My husband and I have continued this steadfast commitment to education in raising our two children. My daughter is a junior at the University of San Francisco and my son is a junior at Paradise Valley High School. [...]
Through my broad experience, I have developed a keen understanding of public education in the state of Arizona. I believe that my demonstrated commitment to public education and my years of experience volunteering in the district make me an excellent candidate for the PVUSD Governing Board. Parental involvement is one of the most influential factors in determining student success. I will work to expand and encourage parent participation in all PVUSD schools. I have had the opportunity to work closely with many parents, teachers, and administrators and earned their trust while serving as UPC president. These relationships have given me a unique and intimate understanding of the needs of students, parents, and employees that will allow me to make well informed, sound decisions as a Governing Board member. I strongly support a decision-making process that is driven by doing what is best for our students and considers the unique struggles they face in today’s society. Finally, my experience with the CLN provided me a unique opportunity to become well educated on the complexities of education funding as well as its issues and challenges. I have advocated for public education legislatively and will continue to do so in my role as Governing Board member. I believe the district has a responsibility to practice fiscal transparency. To this end, it is imperative that school districts evaluate their operational efficiencies and maximize utilization of available resources, especially during these difficult economic times. I believe I am an excellent candidate for the PVUSD Governing Board. I will continue my commitment to advancing public education in our district and state so our children can reach their full potential.[1][6] |
