I am a grateful wife of 33 years and a proud parent of three adult children — two Air Force and one educator. I am also a blessed grandmother to six beloved grandchildren. Born in Chicago and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, I pursued my education there and later worked as a flight attendant in New York for eight years. I was also a business owner and am now entering my eighth year as a substitute teacher. Holding on to the phrase, “never too old – never too late” I graduated Cum Laude from Wichita State University at the age of 60 earning a BA in Communications.
  • Academic Success. We MUST make change to raise these grades for our students. If we keep doing what we're doing, we'll keep getting the same results.
  • Fiscal stewardship of all of our resources, including the tax payer. Effective fiscal stewardship is critical for the successful operation and sustainability of our school system. It ensures that financial resources are allocated appropriately to maximize educational outcomes while maintaining transparency and accountability
  • By showcasing integrity, it’s important to establish a high benchmark for behavior and decision-making within the educational system. When actions are made with integrity, they prioritize the needs and interests of students above all else. This focus ensures that resources are used efficiently, policies are centered around the students, and the overall educational experience is enhanced. The significance of integrity for me is immense; it forms the basis of trust, transparency, ethical decision-making, and educational excellence. Upholding my integrity enables me to serve my community with honor and dedication, ultimately benefiting the students and shaping the future of education.

Common Sense
Understanding and Addressing Constituents' Needs: Focus on the needs and concerns of students, parents, educators, and the community by listening empathetically and considering diverse perspectives to ensure beneficial policies.
The main responsibility of a school board member is to represent the community on the school board. School board members are responsible for setting up and upholding educational policies that govern the administration of the district, and oversee the financial well-being of the district. This includes the important duty of developing and approving the annual budget. It is the allocation of funds that should align with the district’s educational goals and priorities. One of the board’s most important roles is to hire the superintendent, who will manage the daily operations of the district.
District 5 in the Wichita Public Schools
A school board member supports the diverse needs of the district’s students, faculty, staff, and community by prioritizing empathy and active listening. By understanding and addressing the varied concerns of different groups, board members can implement policies that are beneficial and considerate of all perspectives. Additionally, they should foster open communication channels, encourage community involvement, and ensure that resources are allocated accurately to maximize the overall well-being and success of the educational environment.
Good teaching encompasses a variety of attributes and practices that collectively contribute to an effective and enriching learning experience for students. Strong content knowledge, effective pedagogy, clear communication, passion and enthusiasm, student-centered approach, continuous improvement. Measuring good teaching involves a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods to capture a comprehensive picture of teaching effectiveness. Some methods include surveys and evaluations by students, student performance and self-assessments. To foster and support advanced teaching approaches, it is essential to create an environment that encourages innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
To further expand the teaching of U.S. Government, Civics, and American History. While expanding content-specific curriculum, it is imperative to ensure that students possess strong foundational skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic.
