I am the eldest of six siblings and a first-generation college graduate. I was born in Annapolis, Maryland and raised by my mother, Tameka Smith, in public housing communities. I survived histiocytosis (a cancerous disease) at the age of two, after undergoing months of chemotherapy and radiation. I grew up surrounded by abuse and domestic violence, witnessing journeys of survival—from addiction to cyclic incarceration. Having personally experienced mental health illness, I know the importance of providing access to mental/physical health resources and services.

In December 2017, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Public Policy and a minor in Philosophy. From 2019-2020, I was the scholarship manager and legislative assistant for District 30A Maryland State Delegates Alice Cain and Dana Jones. I served as President of the District 30 Democratic Club from 2020-2021 and from 2019-2021 served on the Board of Directors. Currently, I am a substitute teacher at the first elementary school I attended.

I find, since returning to my hometown after graduating college, that the problems Ward 3 residents face daily are not being addressed. The time has come for listening to, empathizing with, and working for our residents in order to save our Families, Finances, and Future .
  • Development, Fair Taxing, and Thriving Businesses
  • Fiscal, Food, and Housing Security
  • Public Safety and Police Reform
My campaign revolves around saving our families, finances, and future. Violence by police and criminals has decimated families in Annapolis, something I have seen personally. One way to address both sides of this is to target our city’s resources. I will work to build on the crisis response team, rather than having police respond to someone having a mental health crisis or dealing with addiction.

While parts of Annapolis have wealthier residents, others, like many in my Ward, fight to keep food on the table and a roof over their heads, which has been exacerbated by the pandemic. As Alderman of Ward 3, I will develop innovative ways to house the homeless, advocate for long-overdue upgrades to public housing, and support the construction of new affordable housing, while ensuring the accountability of developers.

Our future is existentially imperiled by climate change. We do not have 50 years to avert this disaster, and that is why the direction from our current office holders is not adequate. We must be bold. To start, Annapolis should be powered 100% by clean energy sources, like solar, by 2025. I will sponsor a bill to have all city-owned buildings examined for their suitability of solar panels and hot water systems. In addition, I will push to electrify all city vehicles. Also, residents will be happier and healthier with city purchases of more land for open space recreation, instead of the current strategy of developing recreation land into impervious surfaces.
